Supernova 06:36
An uncountable span of time elapses Before a massive star collapses Bursting out and sucking everything in A hole in space where a star had been And where does everything sucked into it go? We can only guess, but we’ll never know Behold, the supernova Supernova Take me to a place Beyond time and space Supernova Take me far away Cause I don’t want to stay no more Take me far away This corner of the universe has gone astray Supernova You used To be a sun But you Burned yourself out And now it’s time for fun So much fun Just swallowing up all the systems That can fit inside of you Oh yeah

This is Fine 06:04
It’s dry as a bone The smallest spark could start a blaze Hot enough to melt stone Entire ecosystems razed There’s no safety of home There is no exit door Are we still talking about fire? Or is this just a metaphor? For life Ever on the verge Of falling apart Like some biblical purge Careening Toward the end Too fast and Too late to defend We’re already on fire We missed all the signs The flames are upon us And we say this is fine Society doesn’t break down overnight It starts real slow so you don’t put up a fight We’re just like crabs swimming in a pot It’s all comfy and warm right until it’s boiling hot And you’re broken in half and your flesh is devoured Discarded shell just strewn on the floor Are we still talking about seafood Or is this just a metaphor? For life Ever on the verge Of falling apart Like some biblical purge Careening Toward the end Too fast and Too late to defend We’re already on fire We missed all the signs The flames are upon us And we say this is fine They take the lowest hanging fruit They expect us to lick the boot Laws for us don’t apply to them And we end up beaten down again Never never never gonna get a break Till it feels like nothing’s left at stake We’re worker drones mindlessly toiling For ruling classes whom we’re spoiling More costs less pay less freedom By the time it’s unbearable it’s too late to beat ‘em It all breaks down like never before And this is not just a metaphor For life Ever on the verge Of falling apart Like some biblical purge Careening Toward the end Too fast and Too late to defend We’re already on fire We missed all the signs The flames are upon us And we say this is fine

Burn it Down 03:50
Oligarchy Oligarchy Burn it down Burn it down Monuments to Our oppressors Tear them down To the ground Off with their heads! Off with their heads! The world can’t heal until they’re dead Off with their heads! Off with their heads! This broken system must be bled Redistribute Their vast fortunes Take it back Take it back House the homeless In their mansions Let’s attack Let’s attack Eat the rich! Eat the rich! And toss their bones into a ditch Revolution Revolution It’s a viable solution History has been a Series of class struggles Pushed too far the lower classes push back Things get bloody until victory’s declared Then the clocks reset and we do it all again Oligarchs like Musk and Bezos Want to fly to Outer space Launch them in their Phallic rockets To the sun To the sun Leave our planet Leave our planet And don’t come back goddammit Leave our planet Leave our planet By guillotine or rockets dammit

Insomniac 03:49
I’m never falling asleep again Inner turmoil never ends I’m never falling asleep again Drop dead exhausted but the thoughts just won’t stop. Anxiety and crushing toxic mind loops won’t let me sleep. And I need to sleep! Screams I’m never falling asleep again Thoughts go in circles that never end I’m never falling asleep again Please please please I just need some sleep so I can function like a normal human. Why won’t my brain shut off? Why can’t I just think during the day? More agonized screaming I’m never falling asleep again Inner turmoil never ends I’m never falling asleep again Spoken: Finally drifting off slowly and peacefully only to briefly dream about things that bring more anxiety. Dreaming of work, and lack of money and now this incessant beeping and buzzing and oh fuck it’s my alarm! Aaaarrrrrrggggggg! Two hours isn’t enough! Fuck it. I guess I’ll sleep when I’m dead.

Basta! 03:33
There’s drumming on my ceiling like a heartbeat of despair Bang my head against the wall and no one seems to care I want it all to disappear into the frosty air But it persists in driving me so mad this is not fair One more night like this And I will surely die I can’t take it anymore I want to cry I work all day a boring job at least it pays my bills Or at least it did before these economic ills Now the money’s gone before it even hits my bank But stocks are up at least we have the oligarchs to thank One more week like this And I will surely die I’m so broke I want to cry Fascist hate and violence are ever on the rise Mass shootings almost every day occur before our eyes Our leaders offer little more than worthless thoughts and prayers How much bloodshed must we endure before they even care? One more month like this And I will surely die From bad to worse Why even try Social media exists as a bad feeling amplifier Profits from our Doomscrolling rise ever higher and higher Every aspect of our lives a commodity for sale Enslave us with technology, our demise has gone full scale If life keeps on like this I’d rather die It’s gone so far adrift I want to…

What have we become? What have we become? Here in the land of the gun USA number one We sacrifice our children All in the name of their guns Their futures left uncertain The oligarchs have won I’m sorry that we’ve failed you I’m sorry we’ve let it get to this To them, Your lives only matter before you’re actually born And they don’t want us to teach you about kindness to others or inclusion or the truth about our history Only their archaic beliefs in a system specifically designed to keep you under their control What have we become? What have we become? Here in the land of the gun USA number one It wasn’t always like this There once was some hope But we’ve been sold out to the darkness And we’re at the ends of our rope I’m sorry that we failed you I’m so sorry it’s come to this We were all too busy just trying to survive, to make it in ever increasingly difficult circumstances to pay attention and maintain a decent society for you Distracted by the stars of reality tv And on the surface the internet made us feel more free But we are really only prisoners Docile beasts. Cogs in a machine. What have we become? What have we become? Here in the land of the gun USA number one We just do as we are told Working till the day we die And we never rise up No we don’t even try And I’m sorry we failed you I’m sorry that it’s come to this We allowed our parents generation to throw us all under the bus without a fight They had every benefit and that was not enough for them So they took it all away from us And hung us out to dry And we just let them do it. What have we become?

Check out this awesome interview I did! rockmommy.com/2023/01/jason-buckley-emerges-from-quarantine-sounds-with-dark-experimental-record/

Jabroni is a pro wrestling term. The official Oxford Dictionary definition is “a foolish or contemptible person.” It’s been said to have been originated by the Iron Sheik and popularized by The Rock, but I would guess that it is older than that, from wrestling’s old carny roots. Either way, it fits in with my self-deprecating vibes and the ridiculous luchador mask that I got for $15 at the Laney Flea Market in Oakland and wear for my ridiculous TikTok promos as the wrestling heel BassFace.

This is not specifically a concept album, but if it were, the concept would be “shit is fucked up and bullshit.” This album is inspired by mass shootings and crushing inflation and oligarchs ruining everything and the rise and normalization of outright fascism and bigotry that is literally killing people and how my generation has failed in protecting my kid’s generation from my parents’ generation. That said, I tried to end the album on a hopeful note, which may or may not have happened completely by accident.

Musically, I tried a few new things. I got a new cheap synth toy (Korg Volca Keys) for my birthday this year, as well as a few new effects pedals (Eddie Rifkind’s Karen Basic Speaker Manager, EmergyFX Gristle Throbber, Keytars Holy War) and tried some new production techniques like running iPad drums through muffs and delays, and splitting my bass signal to keep more thump while overlaying it with insanity, and using some great tube emulation plugins to provide warmth and/or grit.

What’s next for Suburban Death March? I don’t know! While my personal need to create music is strong, releasing it to a lackluster response has grown a bit tiresome. The few folks who like it, REALLY like it though, and I appreciate each and every one of you more than you can ever know. I am currently working with a live semi-acoustic covers trio, still kicking around the idea of a live improvisational ambient psychedelic trio, and there are online collaborations in the works. Stay tuned!

about

Suburban Death March Alameda, California

A solo recording project born in the plague years by a suburban dad in the East Bay. Sometimes heavy and doomy, often proggy, occasionally soundtrack-y or mellow, but always weird.
